Balmy Beach: Owen Sound's Playground

The King’s Royal Hotel was a fascinating moment in local history, where local business men came together to make what they hoped would be one of the biggest tourist resorts in the region. Despite beautiful facilities, widespread marketing, and an abundance of activities, the hotel began falling apart almost as soon as it opened. So, what exactly happened? We’re partnered with local author and historian Richard Thomas to tell you the story of this hotel, from how it came to be to the legacy it left after it was gone.

This exhibit will be on display throughout the 2024 season and features artifacts, images, and even recordings of music from the King’s Royal Hotel, Balmy Beach Dance Hall, and Balmy Beach Lodge.
