The Chi-Cheemaun ended its 51st season on October 26th, and took its repositioning cruise back to Owen Sound on October 27th. 450 people boarded the ferry in Tobermory and rode to the harbour where it will be spending the 2026-2027 winter. Along the way, passengers took part in a buffet lunch, musical entertainment, and fundraising opportunities for the Canadian Mental Health Association. The ‘big canoe’ was greeted in the harbour by large groups of people that had come out to greet the ship as it arrived, as well as the Owen Sound City Band.
Over the winter, the Chi-Cheemaun will undergo regular inspection and maintenance work in preparation for the 2026 ferry season. If you want to see it in the harbour, you may want to make sure you do so this winter, as the regular maintenance schedule will likely see it going to dry dock after next year’s season.
