Owen Sound had its first shipment of the season on May 30th. The Ontario Venture arrived in the harbour at sunrise to unload grain at the grain elevator.

On top of being the first shipment of the season, it was also the ship’s first visit in Owen Sound. The Ontario Venture only arrived on the Great Lakes earlier this year. The ship was originally built in 2004, but it was recently rebuilt, leaving little of the original construction except for the stem.

The Ontario Venture is operated by McKeil Marine. With the purchase of Lower Lakes by Algoma Central, it is possible that we have seen the last of the Saginaw which has carried grain to Owen Sound for the past few years.
