Owen Sound saw an interesting visitor recently when R/V Sturgeon pulled into the Harbour. The Sturgeon is a research vessel operated by the United States Geological Survey. It supports fisheries related science, including deepwater studies, restoration ecology, and invasive species, to aid in management decisions for top fish predators.

The Sturgeon arrived on September 16 after spending some time in Tobermory. The vessel spent the days in the harbour and went out onto Georgian Bay at night. On September 19 they departed for Britt, ON. We don’t know what research they are conducting, but it’s always neat to see boats like this in Owen Sound.
