The year’s slate of new visitors to Owen Sound continued on August 30th with the arrival of the Algoma Sault. The Sault is one of Algoma Central’s Equinox-Class ships. Unlike the Algoma Innovator which carries salt to Owen Sound, the Sault is a full 740 feet long

It is rare to see ships of this size delivering to Owen Sound. Due to limitations of the harbour, Seawaymax ships typically only come in for winter layup when they sit high in the water with empty cargo holds.

The reason for the larger visitor may relate to the ship’s dual destinations. The Sault departed Thunder Bay bound for Goderich rather taking a direct route here. It appears that it’s cargo was split between the grain terminals in the two ports.
